failing to plan is planning to fail

Did your parents have annoying sayings that they used to say over and over while you were growing up?  Mine did. 

"You don't NEED it.  You want it." 

"Do I look like I'm made of money?"
"A light on in an empty room is money out the window."
"If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?" 
"Don't do the minimum.  Always go the extra mile."

And this last one I can fully attribute to my dad, "Failing to plan is planning to fail."

(Dad, if for some odd reason you end up reading this, don't read any further.  I'm serious.  Move along to a different site or check your e-mail.  In fact, I think that there is a strange and unusual bird at your bird feeder right now that you should definitely go check out.)

Unfortunately for me, my dad was right.  (Shhhh . . . please don't tell anyone I admitted that!) 

I have indeed failed to plan with this seventh craft till Christmas.  First, I failed to plan when I didn't even announce my craft until almost two weeks into June.  Second, I failed to plan when I didn't have the necessary fabric I needed to complete said craft.  Third, I failed to plan by NOT taking into account that the nearest store to acquire said fabric is 50 minutes away.  (Not 50 city minutes away, mind you . . .50 driving-by-corn-fields-and-farms-minutes away.  Trust me, there is a HUGE difference!  I used to live in a city where it would take me 50 minutes to go to the fabric store, but I could also stop at the grocery store, the pharmacy, the dry cleaner . . . you get the idea.  A fifty minute drive was convenient.  Now I have to drive 60 miles (50 minutes) to a fabric store and there is nothing in between - no other errands that can be taken care of from here to there and back.  Needless to say, I do not have the fabric that I need yet . . . and there are only 12 days left in June.) 

Anywho . . . my point is that I'm about 95% sure that the animal pet pillow will not be getting finished this month.  I'm a bit disappointed in myself because this is the first month that I have truly failed at even starting my project.  Bummer!  But don't worry and don't give up on me because as my dad said many times, "Quitters never win and winners never quit."  (I don't actually buy into that.  I've seen quitters win and winners give up.)  I'm not quitting.  I will eventually get to the fabric store, and I will eventually start these animal pet pillows.  I just may not have them done by the end of June. 

The good news is that I've learned to plan my crafts till Christmas a little bit better, so that I actually have the supplies I need before I commit to a particular craft.  What a novel idea! 

(On a side note . . . you know all those annoying sayings my parents said to me that I listed above, I've said almost all of those more than once to my own kids.  Aaaack . . . I've turned into my parents . . . whom I love dearly ;)!  What sayings did your parents say to you?  Which ones do you now catch yourself saying to your own kids?)
